The short version

What is bonus turnover?

Bookmakers hand out bonus bets for signing up, racing promotions and more. A bonus bet is not cash and you cannot withdraw it. The bonus has to be turned over on a bet first.

Bonus bets pay out stake not returned, so a $50 bonus at 5.50 returns $225 rather than $275. Risk that bonus on a random multi or a horse and you keep very little of it. Our bonus turnover software turns it into withdrawable cash instead, by hedging the bonus bet against another bookmaker with no risk involved.

How much of the bonus you keep is the retention rate. Anything above 70% is worth taking, and the software shows hundreds of turnover opportunities above that.

New to this? Our matched betting guide covers the basics of matched betting and how you can use promotions to gain an edge over the bookmakers.

Worked example

A $50 bonus, $46.43 in cash

In the NRL match between Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans, TAB is offering 5.50 on over 58.5 points and bet365 is offering 1.26 on under 58.5 points. Put the $50 bonus bet on the over at TAB, then stake $178.57 on the under at bet365.

The match goes over 58.5 points

The TAB bonus pays $225.00, the bet365 stake is lost

$46.43

The match goes under 58.5 points

bet365 returns $225.00, the bonus bet loses

$46.43

Either way, $46.43 of the $50 bonus ends up as cash you can withdraw. That is a retention rate of 92.86%.

Expanding the row opens the calculator, where you can set your bonus amount, adjust either price if it moves, and find direct links to both bookmakers.

How it works

How the highest retention bonuses are found

The process is similar to arbitrage, however we must account for the bonus bet which is stake not returned (SNR).

1

Scan every bookmaker

Prices for every outcome of every market are pulled from more than 100 bookmakers at once, continuously.

2

Pair both sides of a market

The price at the bookmaker holding your bonus is matched against the opposing outcome at every other bookmaker.

3

Account for stake not returned

A bonus bet at 5.50 pays 4.50 times the stake, not 5.50, so the hedge is sized against what the bonus actually returns rather than the full price.

4

Rank by retention

What survives the hedge is measured against the bonus amount, and the pairs that keep the most go to the top with both bookmakers one click away.

Inside the tool

Both bets, sized and ready

Every turnover arrives as a single row showing the bonus leg, the hedge leg, the exact stake for each and what you keep. High retention opportunities disappear quickly, so the maths is already done when it reaches you.

Turning a bonus over takes seconds

  1. 1Set the bookmaker holding your bonus and the amount it is for
  2. 2Click each bookmaker’s logo to open both match pages
  3. 3Load the bonus bet on one slip and the hedge stake on the other, but confirm neither yet
  4. 4Check the odds still match the software, then place both back to back

If a price moves before you have placed either bet, open the calculator in the expanded row and enter the new odds. If the retention is still above 70%, take it. If not, move on.

Only see the turnovers you can actually place

Seven filters decide what reaches your screen. Save a set as your default and it loads automatically every time you open the tool.

Which bookmaker is holding the bonus bet you need to turn over.

Hedge Bookmaker

Which bookmakers to hedge at. Choose the ones you actually hold accounts with, because a turnover is no use if you can only place one side of it.

What the bonus bet is worth, so every stake and return on screen is sized to it.

Retention%

The minimum you are willing to keep. We recommend setting the floor at 70% and taking anything above it.

Which method

Three ways to turn over a bonus bet

Bonus bets can be turned over against an exchange, against another bookmaker, or on the horses. This page is the second one, because that is what the bonus turnover software does.

  • Ties up cash as liability

Method 02This page

  • Bookmakers like racing bets, which helps account sustainability

FAQ

Bonus turnover FAQ

What does turning over a bonus bet mean?

A bonus bet cannot be withdrawn. It has to be placed on a bet first, and only what that bet returns is real money. Turning a bonus over simply means converting it into withdrawable cash.

What you end up with depends on how you go about it. Put the bonus on a random multi and most of the time you keep nothing. Turn it over against another bookmaker, against Betfair, or on a calculated racing selection, and you will retain the majority of the bonus value. This page covers the bookmaker hedge method.

How much of a bonus bet can I keep?

The amount you keep is called the retention rate. Anything above 70% is worth taking, however it is very easy to achieve much higher with our tools.

The example on this page keeps 92.86% of a $50 bonus, which is a very good turnover. The software surfaces hundreds of opportunities above the 70% mark every day.

Is bonus turnover risk free?

Once both bets are on at the prices shown, no matter the outcome, your retention % is locked in.

There are minor risks, the same ones arbitrage carries. The odds can shift after one bet is placed, or a bookmaker can void a selection. Both rarely occur.

Do I need a Betfair account?

Not for this method. The bonus turnover software hedges at a second bookmaker, so all you need is accounts at the bookmakers you want to hedge with.

Turning over a bonus bet using Betfair is a separate method.
